Hello good day and good morrow to you. How are you on this wonderful day? Wonderful I hope.
Today is very quiet so far, so thats good. I feel the need to do some work today and relax as well.
Last night or I should say early this morning, I took the time to get some editing done. Eventually I stopped because I was tired and being tired and editing means even more mistakes than before. I am glad I started though...
Progress is good! I was thinking about translating some German paragraphs or stories just to get some practice in. Right now I dont feel as if I am doing enough towards strengthening my language skills.
Anyway today I would like to talk about something that I am not sure I want to give too much airplay but its something that got to me and I think that I should mention it after all. That is racism. *sigh isnt this an already tired topic...We should already be past this. Should be.
Anyway I dont want to talk about normal forms of racism, we all know about those, but I want to talk about the racism that can occur when someone tries so hard to promote there race that they begin to find racism in everything.
A few days ago, this guy commented on some of my drawings. He praised me for them but went out of his way to kind of accuse me of being racist because he didnt see any drawings of black people. So of course to him I must be racist! He went on to inform me that black is beautiful too and if I didnt think so as well.
The thing that bothered me the most is that someone who didnt even know me thought it was okay to judge me from a few pictures. He doesnt know me, nor did he take the time to find out anything about me.If he did maybe I'd tell him that I was new to drawing faces and I have a few pictures of people I want to draw, people of all different colours, but why should I have to give an excuse to someone like that?
I did go out of my way to tell him that I think beauty is more than skin deep and it doesnt matter what colour skin someone has and the fact that he has to point that out says something about him.
Skin colour doesnt matter to me, I have friends of all different colours, textures and whatever, but why should I have to bring this up or prove this to anyone? It doesnt matter to me what colour someone is, it shouldnt matter to anyone. People need to realise that apart of being accepted for who you are is facing the fact that by continuously pointing out our differences you are setting us back just as much as someone who is out rightly racist.
This is the same reason I dont understand the need to have a black authors section in the library. Why is this seen as an accomplishment? It doesn't have a white authors section, does it? It reminds me of when only certain people could use certain toilets and stuff.
This is something that I am very passionate about especially when someone tries to accuse me of being racist. My family is mixed with so many different races, what right do I have to hate someone because of the colour of their skin. What right do you have? Its just like saying that I hate myself and I most certainly LOVE ME.
Words of advice for today: Know that in whatever you do, there is going to be somebody who tries to discourage you or lesson the impact of something that you have accomplished or worked hard towards. Never let that change who you are and dont ever think of your race as something that holds you back. We all have the same blood, no matter what our skin looks like or where we are from.
Ciao for now, laters and Auf Wiedersehen!

So true Crazy. I don't get the whole black authors section in bookstores and stuff either. It actually annoys me that people feel the need to put them somewhere else as if it's its own genre like fantasy, or sci-fi, or romance or something. What does the colour of the author have to do with the story, you know.
ReplyDeleteIt's just like in books when they talk about all the characters like normal, but feel the need to mention that one of them is "African-American". Just sigh, I just sigh.
Anywho. Thank you for posting this. It needed to be said. Off now. Byes, till next time.
