Hello and good day all you guys and girls. How are you on this lovely evening?Fine and peachy I hope. I think that I am getting a cold. Not think really,it seems that I have it already. I'm sneezing and blowing my nose. That is one the reasons why I am updating in the last hour like I am right now.Its nine minutes past ten, so yes I am cutting it pretty close here. Me and my eleven o' clock deadline.
Anyway today I would like to talk about an old German movie (I think it came out in 1996) I watched called 'Regular Guys' OR 'Echte Kerle'. It is the story of a man who tries to drink his problems away and wakes up
the next day naked and in the arms of another man. This is an interesting plot and why I wanted to watch the romance comedy in the first place.
So there is tension between the main guy (who is a cop) and the other guy (who is a mechanic and an out gay) as they end up living together. Also the cop is trying to find out if he slept with the mechanic (he redo's stolen cars) and as he deals with the fact that he might have actually developed feelings for another man who doesn't hide the fact that he has feeling for him as well.
SO for MOST of the movie you see them dance around each other, as the main dude tries to prove that he likes women while at the same time show that he likes the man. The cop tries sleeping a girl but fails (he even apologizes to the mechanic and makes sure he knows that he and the girl didnt sleep together) and is jealous when the mechanic has a guy over.
Then for the other part they try to make the girl part of the main plot device (to prove the guy's heterosexuality) and she of course falls in love with him. WHAT?! She actually says and I quote, "I raelised that I have fallen madly in love with you." [bring out the cheesy goodness]
I hate when they put women in gay movies to have a whole kind of straight thing going. Love is love! Why cant two people fall in love and let that be it? huh?!
I felt what could've been a good movie was made into some cheap romance pointless waste. They built up the gay plot to give it a whole turn around. The ending didnt feel complete and make little sense when you watch the entire movie.
I would recommend watching it just so you can see how they fuck up the end of a possibly good movie.
Words of advice for today: Sometimes we miss the deeper meaning of things because we cast it aside so soon we dont allow ourselves to realize what we're missing.
Ciao for now and Auf Wiedersehen!
(A still from the movie)
